PSSO welcomes soprano Adana Lloyd, a paralegal by day and a fabulous soprano singer by night. She even dabbles as a pastry chef!
Soprano Soloist
Born in Landstuhl, Germany, soprano Adana Lloyd grew up in a military family and moved often, before settling in Anchorage, Alaska in 1993. Adana has been singing her entire life and landed her first lead role in a musical as a precocious 5 year old.
Adana continued to perform in local choirs and school musicals throughout her school years. The opera bug didn't bite until age 13, when Adana heard a recording of Maria Callas performing "La mamma morta" from Umberto Giordano's "Andrea Chénier." Adana immediately fell in love with the art form and began studying voice with Anchorage voice teachers, Betty MacDonald and Dennis Goff.
In 2000, Adana moved to Seattle to pursue a bachelor’s degree in political science at Seattle University. During her time at SU, Adana was a frequent soloist with the university choirs. She also traveled to South Africa for an internship with the Amy Biehl Foundation. While in Cape Town, Adana taught voice lessons for primary school students in the townships and directed the choirs at Pollsmoor Prison, leading them to victory at the 2003 Western Cape Inter-Prison Choral Competition.
In 2004, after completing her studies at SU, Adana decided to begin actively pursuing her lifelong dream of a career in opera. She began studying voice with renowned soprano, Awilda Verdejo and coaching with Hartwig Eichberg. After several years of training, Adana is thrilled to be making her symphonic debut with PSSO!
PSSO welcomes mezzo Katie Elder. Katie works in marketing for WaMa in addition to pursuing her passion for singing.
Mezzo Soprano Soloist
Katie Elder, mezzo soprano, is a native of the Northwest, raised in Battle Ground, Washington. With the help of her mother, she learned how to read music as a child and taught herself basic songs on the piano. At the age of seven she earned a lead role in a school musical, which launched her interest in singing.
Throughout grade school Katie sang in several choirs, performing everything from jazz to classical music, and often performed the National Anthem at sporting events. She was even chosen to open for a Peter Frampton concert. She became heavily involved in theater in high school, starring in various plays and musicals, and occasionally finding herself on the stage crew.
While pursuing her bachelor’s in Business Administration at Seattle University, Katie sang with the University Chorale, Women’s Chorale, and Consort choirs, frequently performing solos. Upon graduation she began studying voice privately with celebrated soprano Awilda Verdejo and coaching with Hartwig Eichberg. In 2006 Katie was a featured soloist at St. James Cathedral and toured Italy, singing for His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI. She continues to sing with the Blessed Sacrament Church choir as a regular soloist and has given various recitals and solo performances in the area.
Katie works in marketing for a Washington-based financial institution and pursues her opera habit in every spare moment. She is deeply indebted to her teacher, coach, family, and fiancé for their immeasurable gifts of support as she joyfully performs with the PSSO.
